Integrated Environmenal Solutions (IES) has launched VE-Ware, which is a free to download software tool that enables new and existing buildings to have their energy and carbon emissions easily assessed for free.
Based on the company’s Virtual Environment (VE) Apache thermal analysis software, VE-Ware can help increase the energy efficiency of buildings, both domestic and commercial, by giving instant feedback on energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions based on the model geometry, room characteristics, system type and using international data on climatic conditions.
IES describes VE-Ware as ideal for use at early stages as it facilitates iterative design, allowing the comparison of different design, layout and system options. Initially only models exported directly from Autodesk’s BIM Revit platform can be accepted by VE-Ware.
So just how easy is it? According to IES, you simply insert the Revit geometry data, tell it where your building is in the world and then define your: building type construction materials, heating and cooling system types, and room types. Then after pressing a button VE-Ware will automatically detail the thermal simulation and give feedback on energy consumption, CO2 emissions. You can then modify your building and assess different options.
